My Maximuscle journey
As you may know per a previous blog post (here), I was lucky enough to be given a pack of Maximuscle Vanilla flavored “Promax” Protein Whey Supplement courtesy of @MaximuscleUK having blogged about trying some Protein Powder. I’ve come to the end of it now so here’s my feedback on the product and how it worked for me.
I’d like to thank all at Maximuscle for their generosity and nutritional advice.
I started taking it just over a month ago (with a week and a half break in the middle) and I was using it as a post-training shake and as a pre bed-time device for maximum muscle recovery but after a few days I simply dropped it back to a post-workout shake. Now I DO suffer from IBS (I know, not a pretty thought!) so I find myself most susceptible to ANY minor irritant in food and it does not take much (usually, just catching a glimpse of a glass of milk out of the corner of my eye) to turn me from the usual Shaun “Dino” Davis like physique into a close relative of The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
Jesting aside it is a royal pain to have to be on my guard against the creepy bloating monster so, I was wary of trying a new Protein Powder formula to start with(having done the Creatine roller coaster) but, having looked at what Promax did NOT contain (No egg, milk powder, soya or casein), I was reasonably confident I would not bloat too badly.
Whilst I was testing out Promax I chatted to a few of the guys at the gym who HAVE used it before (although it’s technically a PhD house) and the things that cropped up for them was about it being safe to use and containing only as one of the guys put it “good shit”. Maximuscle has a reputation for providing safe, tested and proven products, a reputation gained through continuous development, feedback and enhancement, coupled with quality and in the case of this Promax, great taste.

It’s very important to people when you hear so many stories of chemical nightmares in the Training/Bodybuilding world, that the stuff we put in our bodies is pure, it’s free from contaminants and dubious or illegal substances. Maximuscle stand on their reputation and pride themselves on the quality of their products. The host of athletes and sports organisations that swear by the Maximuscle range are testament to the hard work and dedication to the cause of peak athletic performance that goes into every product. As far as I am concerned, when I put that Promax shake into my body, I am assured it’s what it should be, how it should be.
In my limited test with Promax, I found it:
- Easy to mix
- Easy to drink
- Easy to digest
– the three big “easys” that are important in any supplement powder – there is NOTHING worse than downing a post-workout shake ad hitting a lump of something!!!. It’s rare to find one that ticks all those boxes and Promax certainly does. I was amazed at the taste and although this was probably down to having drunk some supplements which were more closely related to adding water to chalk, the range of flavors for Promax (Banana, Caffe Latte, Choc/Mint, Chocolate, Cookies and Cream, Natural, Orange, Strawberry and Vanilla) make it an affordable and “easy to swallow” supplement in more ways than one.
The big question though was did I notice any effect? Bare in mind that this was NEVER about a scientific experiment, it was about trying to increase the growth rate without impacting overly on my regime, it was about trying a product and hoping that I did not bloat like some sort of umm…bloaty thing.
But I DID notice a difference. not just in sustainable (I think enhanced) muscle repair and growth even over the duration of this test (just shy of 25 days all in) but also, I think products like this have a “mental” impact as well. If you expect great things of something and you apply yourself in the round, generally it performs and adds something to the mix. Muscle gain, weight training, any performance is a 50/50 balance between mind and body and I EXPECTED to see a difference, I expected to be surprised by my muscle growth (ok, especially on my Bi’s and Tri’s !) and I don’t think it was all in my mind.

I (like most blokes my age I am sure!) fight a daily battle with trying to achieve and maintain a flat stomach and after a 3 day settling in period where my body got used to the new formula at the start, as well as felling fuller post-training and less “spike vulnerable”, and I DID notice a better “flatness” to my stomach.
All in, will I buy Promax again? Yeah, definitely.
I may be swayed to move over to Maximuscle as my “supplement of choice” due in part to the range and the availability of support that they offer to the novice trainer like me. I am a 37 year old dad and IT consultant, not a 20-something male model (no matter how hard I imagine I am!!!)
I have a shopping list that I’m gonna try in the new year and having been amazed at the lack of stomach response to Promax I am going to try:
And I have GOT to get me one of these in Medium for the summer
So there you have it! I HIGHLY recommend the Maximuscle range form my experience with Promax and Maximuscle in general. I urge you to go along to their website and check out the offers they have on – they are ALWAYS updating them and the catalog they have is impressive too! All they have to do now is work on the clothing range but, I think they have sports nutrition sewn up.
Pax and KEEP TRAINING HARD!
